How to Switch ON Split Screens on Sketch

  • A Toolbar button 'Split Screen' has been added to the Sketch Canvas 2D/3D/BIM.

 

  • When the “Split Screen” icon is selected, 'Select Layout'  screen pops up.

 

  • All the files will be grouped and displayed by 
  • Drawings 
  • 360 
  • BIM


 

  • The Layout for the split screen by default will be set to horizontal. User has the option to choose the layout b/w
  • Horizontal (Default) 
  • Vertical
  • Select one or more files b/w Drawing/BIM/360 and click on 'Apply Changes' 

 

  • When User clicks on 'Apply Changes', files selected part of the Split will open in a NEW Sketch tab.
  • Split Screen tab will have an icon followed by text 'Split Screen'
  • Only one split screen session is available and added, the other Sketch tabs will show the new split screen icon disabled. Any addition or deletion to the split should be done in the Split screen tab only. 
  • If User navigates to other sketch tabs, they will not have any relevance of the split and will show the files as normal. User has selected the files or it can be 2D files, followed by 360 and then BIM as the order.
  • Desktop will support split screen up to,
  • 4 tabs on Desktop
  • 3 on Tablet
  • 2 on a Phone. 

  • Each file after the Split will show 
  • Name of the File 
  • Synchronous Scroll 
  • Maximize 
  • Close




Navigate b/w files that are part of the split

  • Once the Files are split and shown in a new sketch tab. The file in the left will be Selected & highlighted in a blue border. 

  • In this use case the first file (Floorplan) was selected and is a 2D file. User now taps on the second file part of the split which is a 360 file.



  • On tap of the other File (360 file in this example), Highlight the selected file and the canvas will now show all of the options related to 360 as seen in the below image. 



Synchronous Scroll

  • “Sync Scroll” is a feature part of Sketch Split, Users can select one or more files to perform a Sync Scroll operation. When Sync Scroll is enabled all of the files that are part of the Sync scroll will Pan/Zoom In/Out together when an operation is performed on the current file active. 



  • To enable Sync Scroll, tap the icon. Once one file is selected for Sync scroll, User is shown a toast to select more files. 




  • In the below use case, 2 files were selected as part of the Sync scroll with the 2D canvas as the active file. When User pans the 2D file, notice in the below 2 images the other file part of Sync scroll also pans simultaneously.  


  • With Sync scroll ON, User zooms the 2D file, the other file part of Sync scroll also zooms simultaneously.  



  • To stop the sync, tap on the Sync scroll button again. User will get a confirmation, 'Are you sure you want to end the Sync scroll' Yes/No as toast. Tapping on Yes from the toast will end the Sync all files selected as part of the sync.  




Split View Disabled

  • Rules for Split View
  • Only one split screen session is available, once a Split screen is added, the other Sketch tabs will show the new split screen icon as “Disabled”.
  • Any addition or deletion to the split should be done in the Split screen tab only. 
  • If User navigates to other sketch tabs, they will not have any relevance of the split and will show the files as normal. 



Place Smart Items during Synchronous Scroll

  • When Synchronous scroll is ON, any command given will be memorized, so that the same operation can be performed on the other file part of the split.  

 

  • Notice in the below 2 images, An RFI was first dropped on the first canvas.


  • Now the User drops the same RFI Item on to the other file part of the Sketch split, this will not only drop the RFI smart Item but also makes the file selected and loads the corresponding canvas for further operations. 


 

 

Change Split Layout

  • Sketch Split can be done either Horizontal or Vertical. Vertical Split will be the default option.

  • Tap on Horizontal and click 'Apply Changes' to change the split layout accordingly. 


Drag and drop windows to reorder or re-size

  • Once multiple files are part of the Split the Files can be re-ordered or re-sized.

 

  • To Re-order, drag and drop the file to interchange the file location. Once you re-order, only one file will be selected at a given point and the canvas shows the options pertaining to the once selected. 


 

 

 

  • To resize a file, drag the file at the edge and release the control to end the re-size. 

 

 

  • Based on where the User releases the file to resize the other files part of the split will readjust its placement retaining the split. 


Drag and drop a Sketch tab to add a file to the split
  • Once the file is split, User can drag and drop any other sketch tab to the Split screen tab to add a file to the Split.
  • If User drags a file that is already added/part of the split, then on drop show a toast 'File already added to the Split'.
  • If User already has 4 files on Desktop and drags and drops a new file to the split, then show a toast after the drop 'Maximum of 4 files can be added to the split' and cancel the operation.

 

 

 

 

Birds Eye View

  • Birds Eye view is a new functionality available when in Split screen mode.  

 

  • Tapping on 'Birds Eye View' will load the file at the center of the screen as a floating window, this window can be moved and docked at any area in the sketch.
  • The Sync Scroll button will be hidden in this mode. Maximize and X button will be available. Clicking on X 'Birds Eye View' pop up will close the window and add the File back to its Split view state retaining all of the properties. 

 


Maximize Split Screen

  • Maximize button lets a file that is part of the Split screen be seen in full screen.

 

  • When File is maximized, Sync scroll button will be disabled. Sync scroll functionality will not be available when in Maximized mode.

 


Max Files added to Split Screen

  • Desktop allows up to 4 files, 3 on Tablet and 2 on Phone, on trying to add more than these will show an inline warning 'Maximum <4> files can be selected'

  

Close Split

  • When Multiple files are part of the Split, User can simply use the X button on the individual File to close the file part of the Split. 

 


 

  • When a file part of the split was closed, the File will still be available in Sketch canvas.  Closing a File from the split will NOT close the actual file in the other sketch tab.

 

  • However, closing the File from Sketch tab directly will also end that Sketch Split for that individual file.


 


 

Exit Split
  • This will exit from the Split screen.
